The Supervisory Board of T-Mobile International AG appointed René Obermann as the new Chairman of the Board of Management on Wednesday. The 39 year-old member of the Board of Deutsche Telekom succeeds Kai-Uwe Ricke, who was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom AG in mid-November. At the same time, the Supervisory Board approved a new structure for the T-Mobile Board of Management and appointed two new members, Timotheus Höttges and Hamid Akhavan. Bob Stapleton leaves the Board of Management of T-Mobile International but will remain vice chairman of T-Mobile USA.

" Following on from the successful rebranding of the majority-owned subsidiaries, the restructuring of the top management level and the resulting shift of additional operational responsibility to Board of Management level is another important step towards turning the previously loose association of individual companies in their respective countries into one company working together" , said Kai-Uwe Ricke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of T-Mobile.

" The new board is aligned around strong functional leadership and will set the right frame for our ongoing success. The new structure is a consistent continuation of the integration of our European companies: In the past we already achieved considerable synergies through our uniform branding, the centralization of our purchasing and our international product development. Now, we are striving to achieve even more synergies by combining our forces with regard to integrated marketing and branding, Network and Information Technology and Sales and Services, all lead by a strong customer focus. I am happy, that with Nikesh Arora, Hamid Akhavan and Timotheus Höttges we have outstanding experts with strong expertise in mobile communications on our board to manage these new units" , said the new Chairman of the Board of Management, René Obermann.

The new T-Mobile Board of Management will continue to have eight members, as before. René Obermann, who represents the interests of T-Mobile on the Deutsche Telekom Board of Management, is responsible, as Chairman, for the areas of strategy, communication and regulation / lobbying. Furthermore, he will be responsible for the mobile communications activities in the United Kingdom at Board of Management level.

Hamid Akhavan and Timotheus Höttges are new to the Board of Management. Mr. Akhavan, 41, will head the newly created unit Network and Information Technology with responsibility for development, deployment and operation of all network and IT systems across T-Mobile's European companies. Mr. Akhavan will also continue to have responsibility for procurement and capital management. He had been a member of the European management team since September 2001, responsible for network systems at T-Mobile's European companies and thus for the preparations necessary to launch UMTS services.

Timotheus Höttges, 40, will be responsible for the unit Sales and Service Operations Europe. In this position, Mr. Höttges will be responsible for sales, customer service and distribution in the European subsidiaries in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic and will represent those countries in the Board. At the same time, he will continue to be Managing Director of T-Mobile Deutschland, where he has been in charge since April of this year.

Another key element of the new Board structure is the consolidation of all European marketing activities from product development to branding into one responsible Board function, Marketing. This function will be headed by Nikesh Arora, 34, who has been Member of the Board of Management since June 2001 for New Business. In his new function, Mr. Arora will be responsible for the development and marketing of voice and data products and services as well as for developing the T-Mobile brand.

Robert Dotson, 42, will represent the US business on the Board.
Thomas G. Winkler, 39, Chief Financial Officer, will also take over responsibility for merger and acquisitions. The responsibilities of Lothar Harings, 42, as Member of the Board of Management for Human Resources and Michael Günther, 58, as Member of the Board of Management for Joint Venture Management remain unchanged.
