T-Mobile announces new UK Managing Director

6th February 2003

T-Mobile UK, part of one of the largest mobile communications companies worldwide, today announced the appointment of a new Managing Director.

Brian McBride, 47, formerly VP Northern Europe for Dell Computers, will join the UK’s third largest operator in July, taking over from Harris Jones who is to leave the company in the summer. With over 6,500 employees across 25 sites, McBride will take responsibility for the UK’s operation reporting to Rene Obermann, CEO of T-Mobile International.

Obermann commented: “It was important to find the right combination of operational and strategic management with solid international experience in a successor to the lead role in the UK. I am convinced that Brian will carry on the fantastic achievements generated under Harris’s leadership.”

T-Mobile UK took the number three position in subscriber numbers in Q3 of 2002, and demonstrated industry leadership as the first to launch picture messaging in June as well as award-winning price plans. T-Mobile is pushing further into the business market in 2003 with a new package of services.

Jones commented: “I have spent the last three years helping the UK business realise its potential. I am confident that it will continue on its positive path under new leadership.”

McBride commented: “I cannot think of a better time to join T-Mobile UK. They are clearly on the right path and I am keen to support the operation in its aim to grow revenues, EBITDA and its consumer and business subscriber numbers. I look forward to taking up my role in July”.
