  • Expansion of Office in Your Pocket™ range of wireless email devices

  • Quad-band for full international roaming, ensuring enhanced availability of email on the move, across the globe

London, UK – 15th February, 2005: T-Mobile today announces an expansion to its range of BlackBerry® devices with the introduction of the new BlackBerry 7100t™ and BlackBerry 7290™. The devices are now available from T-Mobile throughout the UK.

The new BlackBerry models, developed and manufactured by Research In Motion (RIM), are the latest in T-Mobile’s growing suite of the Office in Your Pocket™ devices, giving customers the opportunity to work seamlessly while out of the office and on the move, across the globe. The two new devices, optimised for simple and intuitive mobile access, suit the needs of both business users and consumers.

In June 2003 T-Mobile was first to launch BlackBerry for the 'prosumer' - professional consumer - market, in the UK. The Instant Email service, which uses BlackBerry Internet Solution(tm) was initially launched with the BlackBerry 6230 and later with the BlackBerry 7230.  Today's announcement enhances the functionality of the company's BlackBerry range to suit customers' growing mobile access needs.

The new BlackBerry 7100t and BlackBerry 7290

The BlackBerry 7290 is based on a classic BlackBerry design with a full QWERTY keyboard.  The BlackBerry 7100t is a smaller, more compact device, in a handset design offering standard BlackBerry functionality, ’push’ email, phone, SMS, browser, calendar, contacts and corporate data applications.

New and enhanced features include large colour screens, Bluetooth® support enabling wireless connection with a car kit or headset, as well as increased memory on both devices. Both devices are quad-band to support full international roaming.

James Hart, Head of Business Marketing, T-Mobile UK comments: “The extension of our BlackBerry range of devices is vital to meet the mobile access needs of both business customers as well as consumers”.

“Access to, and seamless use of, wireless information is vital for businesses to improve their productivity, reduce costs and enhance communications. The additions of the BlackBerry 7290 and BlackBerry 7100t ensure that      T-Mobile is delivering on its promise of offering a complete ‘Office in Your Pocket™’, by providing the flexibility to work how and when they want, whilst enabling them to better meet their customers’ needs.”

“We are very pleased that T-Mobile is expanding its BlackBerry offering to include the BlackBerry 7100t and BlackBerry 7290,” said Mark Guibert, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Research In Motion.  “With enhanced features such as quad-band and Bluetooth support, BlackBerry users will enjoy even greater convenience and freedom in their personal and professional lives.”

The price of devices is dependent on which price plan customers select and therefore can range from free to £129.99 for the BlackBerry 7290 and from free to £159.99 for the BlackBerry 7100t.  Consumers can have unlimited* email to their internet email accounts from £10 per month inc VAT which also includes 0.5MB browsing allowance.

Consumers can purchase the devices from T-Mobile stores across the UK, through www.t-mobile.co.uk or via 08081 216 000. Business customers should call 0800 6595001 or email businessenquiries@t-mobile.co.uk for more details on a bespoke package.
