T-Mobile launches new Street gigs concept

LONDON, UK, June 21st 2005: The UK’s hottest bands are more accessible than ever this summer.   T-Mobile is bringing a whole new experience for customers and music lovers with T-Mobile Street Gigs.

Keeping things surprising and spontaneous, text and picture message invitations are being sent only 90 minutes before the acts play with details of the secret gig location. Wannabee gig goers can also sign-up online to register their interest at www.t-mobile.co.uk/street. T-Mobile is working in association with Sony Ericsson with Street Gigs, ensuring customers can capture their experience with the latest mobile phones.

The concept is one of impulsive action and instant exhilaration and as such the whole event, including set up and take down, will last just two hours, demonstrating the ‘blink-and-you’ll-miss-it’ nature of Street Gigs.

The performances aren’t concerts or PA’s but totally live sets from fresh new talent including Mercury music prize nominated The Magic Numbers plus Lemar, The Subways, Estelle and other to be announced, all staged in urban locations in the open to offer fans a totally one-off experience and unique electric atmosphere.

The past decade has seen radical new ways of using the flexibility and anonymity of mobile telecoms with a whole host of spontaneous mass gathering movements.

T-Mobile Street Gigs take these concepts and create the ultimate gigging experience by staging the UK’s hottest bands and artists in unconventional settings across a variety of urban locations.

Street Gigs will be intimate, exclusive and unforgettable for T-Mobile customers who receive the details, plus their lucky mates who they choose to share the details with a bring along.

To help those attending capture the moment, gig goers are being encouraged to trial the all-new Sony Ericsson D750i camera phone, an exclusive model only available on the T-Mobile network.

The only handset equipped with a 2 mega-pixel camera, auto-focus and camera light all combine to produce astonishingly clear images.  Handsets will be made available for the crowd to take their own creative shots and through the T-Mobile Kodak Mobile Service customers can print out digital quality photographs on site to keep as the ultimate event keepsake. T-Mobile customers can also send pictures of their exclusive experience to their mates in the UK or abroad for only 20p.

A picture competition to find the image that captures the essence of T-Mobile Street Gigs will also be running alongside the live events offering fantastic prizes including new D750i handsets.

Phil Chapman, UK Marketing Director, T-Mobile said;

“T-Mobile Street gigs is the first of our exciting new initiatives to deliver unique experiences for our customers.  A series of one-off, specially created events will let T-Mobile customers show their mates where it’s at.”

Encompassing elements of spontaneous live music, nights at the movies like never before and non-stop parties - You never know what you’ll find on the streets this summer!
